Dear Tom,
How are you? Glad to tell you something about mobile payment in China.
Mobile payment is most popular in China. It has made people’s daily life more and more
convenient. Most of us are used to paying by scanning QR codes.
By mobile payment, we can pay easily wherever we go. You can buy breakfast on the street
and pay by scanning with your smart phone. In the subway station, you scan with your smart
phone to purchase your ticket. This is a glimpse into the life of most Chinese — allowing us to bid
farewell to the wallet and bank cards.
Mobile payment has greatly changed people’s lives in China. It seems that China is really
leading in some ways and is also sweeping other nations.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours,
Lihua

Test 1
W: What have you got for the picnic tomorrow?
M: Some bread, fruits, vegetables and drinks. Will you go with us?
W: I’d like to, but I promised Tom we’d see a movie together. (1)

Test 2
W:I’m really tired of the wet weather. Rain, rain, rain.
M:  Don’t worry.  The weather forecast says it will be fine with the sun shining on
Sunday,(2)but don’t forget to bring your umbrella today.

Test 3
M: How much would it cost for my daughter and me to go to New York?
W: One hundred dollars for you and half for your daughter since she is under 12. (3)

Test 4
M: Can I stay here for just another minute? I really need to look up something on Shakespeare.
W: Sorry. Everyone is supposed to put their books back on the shelves when the closing bell
has rung. (4)

Test 5
W: Stop smoking, OK? It is a bad example to our children. (5)
M: I know smoking is unhealthy, but they are not at home.

Test 6
W: Daddy, why is the sky blue?
M: Oh, honey…it’s a little hard to explain. (6) There are things you don’t understand about
science yet.
W: Oh. I thought it was because the ocean is blue. The sky is always looking at the ocean, so it
should be blue, too.
M: Good idea, Ruby! That is very close to the real reason. The sky has a lot to do with the ocean.
They’re related, in a way. (7) Did you ever notice that they’re never exactly the same color? It’s
just like you and your brother Peter. You look alike because you’re related, but you don’t look
exactly the same.
Test 7
W: Hey, Nick, can you come to my house on Saturday? My cousin Sam from Xi’an is going to be
here.
M: Oh! I remember we went bike riding together last fall when he visited you. (8)
W: Yes, that’s right.
M: I’d love to, but I have an exam on Monday so I ...
W: That’s really too bad! Oh, but Sam isn’t leaving until next Wednesday. Can you hang out with
us on Monday night? M: Sure! See you on Monday. (9)

Test 8
M: Why didn’t you answer my call? (10)
W: I didn’t see that you called.
M: But I left you an email. (10)
W: Well, I don’t usually check my e-mails. No one leaves e-mails anymore.
M: Right. That’s why I sent you a couple of text messages afterwards. (10) I figured you were
more likely to look at those.
W: I turned my phone off all day. I just turned it on five minutes ago. (11)
M: Who turns their phone off all day? I get super nervous if I’m out of contact for even an hour.
W: Well, I had the most important job interview of my life earlier today!
M: That’s why I wanted to get in touch with you! How did it go?
W: I went out to lunch with them after the interview. The founder of the company joined us. Then
we went on a tour of the factory and met some of the other managers.
M: Congratulations! (12)

Test 9
M: So, Alice, I’m thinking about going to China and I’m really crazy about nature. Can you
recommend a place to me?
W: On my first trip to China  three years ago, the best thing I did was  visit  Zhangjiajie
National Park . (13) If you like nature, it is well worth visiting.
M: Wow, how big is the park?
W: I didn’t see the whole thing and I only spent three days there, (14) so I really don’t know
how big it is except that it is very large.
M: Oh. Did you see any wildlife such as tigers, wolves or snakes?
W: No, I just saw various butterflies. (15)
M: Was it difficult to walk on the roads and paths?
W: Yeah, though they are not plain, most of them have steps or stairs so I don’t think it is
very difficult. (16)
M: So, where is this again? Did you say it was in Hunan Province?
W: That’s right.
Test 10
Each different part of China has its own special forms of traditional art. These usually try to
show the things that are important in life, such as love, beauty and family. (17) The most
common things, from paper to clay to bamboo, are turned into objects of beauty.
Sky lanterns were first used by Zhuge Kongming. He sent them out to ask for help when in
trouble.  (18) Today, sky lanterns are used at festivals and other celebrations. They are made of
bamboo and covered with paper.
Paper cutting has been around for over 1500 years. The paper, usually red, is folded before it is
cut with scissors. The most common pictures are flowers, animals, and things about Chinese
history. During the Spring Festival, they are put on windows, doors and walls as symbols of
wishes for good luck and a happy new year. (19)    Chinese clay art is famous because the clay pieces are so small but they look very real. (20)
The pieces are usually cute children or lovely characters from a Chinese fairy tale or historical
story. These small pieces of clay art show the love that Chinese people have for life and beauty.
